Bio

Biological and Intelligent Systems Engineering & Complex Networks and Systems.

John is a PhD student in Biological and Intelligent Systems Engineering and Complex Networks and Systems. He received a BS in chemical engineering from Purdue and is completing his thesis for a MS in Medical Physics from Indiana University. He is interested in using computational experimentation (modeling), dynamical systems, and network approaches in the contexts of cancer biology, translational and clinical medicine. The use of modern computational tools and techniques will accelerate biological insights by optimizing traditional modeling and clinical research approaches as well as adding its own insights. Additionally he is interested in generally aiding in transferring insights to and from the systems that deliver healthcare such that the patient (and all information held by the patient) is "in the loop". He is also a patient-leader in the rare disease community. He has a background in food manufacturing, specifically wine and beer making.

Current Research Projects:

Development and exploration of a dynamic computational model of extracellular matrix. Development of a dynamic computational model of coarse-scale vascular growth and death in the context of cancer. Development of a novel mesoscale computational cell growth method for representation of epithelial like tissues.
